Siphon or Syphon Heads.
When installing a deep bore soakaway, there is sometimes a need to fit a syphon head on top of the installation. This prevents the ingress of foreign objects such as leaves or debris from entering the deep bore and possibly clogging up the installation. In one case, we were called in to inspect their deep bore soakaways as they were not working as well as they had in the past. The problem was that there was no syphon head fitted. Children used to get rid of drinking straws by poking them down the drains. The straws simply floated through the drains and then floated in to the deep bore soakaway. Over a long period of time there were enough to reduce the permeability. If a syphon head had been fitted this problem would not have occurred.
We know how hard it is to obtain syphon heads, if you are lucky enough the find one they usually have to be fitted by pushing them on to the deepbore pipe. This involves entering the soakaway chamber which requires the wearing of appropriate safety equipment and a certificate for working in confined spaces. This can be expensive so we decided to design and manufacture our own.
These are custom made to suit the size of the deep bore soakaway pipe. They are made of heavy duty steel. The advantage of our design is that there is no need to enter the chamber to install or remove the syphon head. They are simply lowered on a rope to the top of the deep bore soakaway. The weight and configuration of the design keeps them firmly in place.
